Tennessee Health Insurance Plan Rates to Increase in 2017
Originally, Cigna and Humana filed for smaller rate increases, but after it was confirmed that UnitedHealthcare would be leaving the state exchange, new rates were submitted to offset the cost of taking on additional enrollees. The rate increases are anticipated to be fairly large, especially since Blue Cross Blue Shield has about 82% of the market share and they have already filed close to a 70% increase in rates. If that occurs, subsidies will need to be raised to assist those that cannot afford the price hike.
